NEW DISTRIBUTION INTEGRITY MANAGEMENT PROGRAM (DIMP)

REQUIREMENTS FOR GAS DISTRIBUTION PIPELINES

On December 4, 2009, the Department of Transportation, Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration amended the Natural Gas Pipeline Safety Act to require operators of gas distribution pipelines to develop and implement Integrity Management (IM) programs.  The stated purpose of these programs is to enhance safety by identifying and reducing pipeline integrity risks.  The final rule took effect February 2, 2010.  Gas distribution operators must develop and implement an Integrity Management program that includes a written Integrity Management plan as specified in 49 CFR Part 192 Paragraph 192.1007 no later than August 2, 2011. The purpose of the IM program for distribution pipelines is to enhance safety by identifying and reducing pipeline integrity risk.  The rule uses a simple risk-based approach to pipeline integrity; however, obtaining all the pertinent data for development of the program may prove to be very difficult for many operators. With the development of commercially available model plans, creation of a written Distribution Integrity Management plan should not be complicated, while remaining economically feasible.  Southern Cathodic Protection is ready to assist in obtaining the data for populating these model plans.  Call us today. Together, we can make a difference in pipeline safety.

For UST Owners
Allow Southern Cathodic Protection Company to assist you in protecting your investment by preventing leaks and meeting state and federal regulations for underground storage tanks and piping.

Even without the strigent EPA regulations mandating corrosion control on underground storage tanks, a sound leak control program makes economic sense. Southern Cathodic Protection Company provides professional engineering services to assist tank owners in preventing leaks and achieving regulatory compliance.

These services include:
Corrosion Surveys to collect site specific information concerning soil characteristics, resistivity, electrical continuity, stray currents and interference.

Statistical Corrosion Probability (SCP) analysis for evaluating underground storage tank suitability for upgrading with cathodic protection in accordance with ASTM standards.

Testing and Design of tanks and piping, provided by registered Professional Engineers and NACE International Certified Corrosion Specialists, insures optimum corrosion control and operating efficiency.

Cathodic Protection Installations extend the life of both tanks and piping indefinitely. The cathodic protection cost represents a mere fraction of tank replacement costs. Cathodic protection can be applied to old or new tanks without disrupting operations.

Remote Monitoring uses computers and modems to automatically acquire and verify cathodic protection operating data while maintaining required records.

Statistical Inventory Control utilizes daily stick readings to economically meet EPA tank tightness and monthly monitoring requirements.

Environmental Assessment is performed for buyers and sellers to protect against financial liability resulting from contaminated soils.
