NEW DISTRIBUTION INTEGRITY MANAGEMENT PROGRAM (DIMP)

REQUIREMENTS FOR GAS DISTRIBUTION PIPELINES

On December 4, 2009, the Department of Transportation, Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration amended the Natural Gas Pipeline Safety Act to require operators of gas distribution pipelines to develop and implement Integrity Management (IM) programs.  The stated purpose of these programs is to enhance safety by identifying and reducing pipeline integrity risks.  The final rule took effect February 2, 2010.  Gas distribution operators must develop and implement an Integrity Management program that includes a written Integrity Management plan as specified in 49 CFR Part 192 Paragraph 192.1007 no later than August 2, 2011. The purpose of the IM program for distribution pipelines is to enhance safety by identifying and reducing pipeline integrity risk.  The rule uses a simple risk-based approach to pipeline integrity; however, obtaining all the pertinent data for development of the program may prove to be very difficult for many operators. With the development of commercially available model plans, creation of a written Distribution Integrity Management plan should not be complicated, while remaining economically feasible.  Southern Cathodic Protection is ready to assist in obtaining the data for populating these model plans.  Call us today. Together, we can make a difference in pipeline safety.

Solutions to Pipeline Integrity Management

Southern Cathodic Protection Company (SCPC) is staffed with industry professionals who, for the past several years, have been involved in pipeline integrity management (IMP) research, program development and implementation. Our focus is to provide the pipeline operator with a collective assembly of all the pieces necessary to create a complete and reliable integrity management program.

Pipeline Integrity Management Program

Our staff has combined experience of 200+ years in Pipeline engineering, OPS regulations, external corrosion control and computer data acquisition and integration. Our staff has been involved with pilot programs sponsored by Industry associations and has a broad background and understanding of the intricacies of pipeline risk assessment.

Put SCPC professionals to work with specialized tools and techniques for identifying and assessing environmental, mechanical and corrosion concerns for a cost effective IMP Program. Our staff has the ability to develop a logical and economical approach to pre-assessment, indirect inspection, direct examination, and post assessment. Using state-of-the-art IMP techniques, assessment data is integrated and aligned in a Windows-based ECDA software program, producing unequaled analytical capabilities.

Full-Service Pipeline Integrity Management Team

Our full-time staff has experience in pipeline engineering, pipeline operations, regulatory compliance, GIS/GPS mapping technology, computer programming, data acquisition and integration, ILI technology, External Corrosion Direct Assessment (ECDA) and corrosion control program analysis.

Our team member's resumes include registered professional engineers, NACE-accredited corrosion specialists, cathodic protection specialists and experienced cathodic protection technicians. Our team studies the client's pipeline system and formulates a sequence of tasks and activities that provides the client with a written integrity management plan, including a plan of action to satisfy DOT/OPS requirements.
